What is Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral palsy is defined as one component of a broader brain damage syndrome comprised of neuro-motor dysfunction, psychological dysfunction, convulsions or behavior disorders of organic origin (Cruickshank,1976.) Movements of muscles and or posture are affected due to brain damage. Cerebral Palsy is not a disease but a condition. There is no cure of C.P. but it is not progressive as brain damage won’t worsen over time. Persons with C.P. have difficulty with one or a combination, but not limited to, of the following:
- posture
- balance and coordination
- epilepsy ( 1 in 3 with C.P.)
- eating and drinking
- learning
